Below is an announcement from Palomar Mountain Traffic Safety Team 1/9/2019:
"This has been a long process, about a year long. I'm not going to write a book about the entire process. Last Spring San Diego County Traffic Advisory Committee ordered a Traffic Engineering Study for both South and East Grade Roads here on Palomar Mountain. The road study recommended speed limit changes for both South and East Grade Road. Today the San Diego County Board of Supervisors APPROVED the speed limit changes. In about 60 days (Estimate) we should have new speed signs on both South Grade Road (30MPH) and East Grade Road (40MPH). Here are some notes from the meeting agenda: District 5 Item 5-A. South Grade Road from State Route 76 to East Grade Road in Palomar Mountain (58th Edition Thomas Guide Page 1052-B6) - Establish a 30 MPH speed limit and certify the speed limit for radar enforcement. Wednesday, January 9, 2019 5 Item 5-B. East Grade Road from State Route 76 to South Grade Road in Palomar Mountain (58th Edition Thomas Guide Page 1073-J6) - Establish a 40 MPH speed limit and certify the speed limit for radar enforcement. Approval of Items 5-A and 5-B would establish tools for speed enforcement that increase road safety and retain mobility. Properly posted speed limits provide feedback to safe and reasonable drivers to improve traffic safety, reduce the number and severity of collisions, and allow for fair enforcement. Both 5-A and 5-B have been approved by the San Diego Board of Supervisors this morning."

As residents of Palomar Mountain Alan and I enjoy all four seasons. In the winter we can get snow and ice. It is important to us that we are able to drive safely during these conditions, so we always carry tire chains in our vehicles in the winter months.
Recently I have been researching alternatives for traditional snow tire chains, and wanted to share a few products that I am considering upgrading to. I am looking for fast, safe and easy installation and came across Flex-Trax and Spikes-Spider as possible options for my Toyota Tundra. For times when you simply need to get unstuck, the TracGrabber seems like a good, inexpensive solution.
Palomar Mountain is expecting our 2nd winter storm of 2019 with rain and the possibility of snow. Make sure you are prepared for icy roads. Chains are required and CHP is enforcing that all cars have chains when traveling to Palomar Mountain Learn more...
