The California Dept. of Transportation is planning to build a “roundabout” intersection at Hwy 76 & Valley Center Road as part of the realignment of the Hwy 76.
The construction of the roundabout will begin next summer, according to Roberto Gotay, Right of Way Agent for CalTrans.
The construction will begin at 0.2 miles west of Rincon Springs Road and continue 0.1 mile west of Water Mountain Road.
Not everyone is excited by the prospect. Linden Burzell, general manager of the Yuima Municipal Water District, predicted traffic accidents galore if the roundabout is built. “I thought one of the reasons we fought the Revolutionary War was to get away from traffic roundabouts. I expect a steady stream of overturned hay trucks, water trucks, RVs and campers if they build this thing.”
Apparently the input and comment of local residents about the roundabout will not solicited, since construction is beginning next summer.
