This vintage postcard and stamp depict the Palomar Observatory,
dedicated 71 years ago August 30, 1948.
At the time of its dedication in 1948, Palomar Observatory housed the Hale Telescope, which was the largest telescope in the world at the time.
This amazing machine is still in operation and hosts astronomers and visitors from around the world.

Forest Bathing on Palomar Mountain...
I wanted to share this article by Dr. Qing Li
'We all know how good being in nature can make us feel. We have known it for centuries. The sounds of the forest, the scent of the trees, the sunlight playing through the leaves, the fresh, clean air — these things give us a sense of comfort. They ease our stress and worry, help us to relax and to think more clearly. Being in nature can restore our mood, give us back our energy and vitality, refresh and rejuvenate us.'

ITS TIME TO SPRING FORWARD!!!
Daylight saving time begins 2 AM Sunday, March 10 2019
If you are hoping to visit Palomar Mountain February 23, 24 and beyond, you will have to have chains. Today over 500 drivers were were turned away by CHP officers. Our CHP is stopping ALL vehicles to make sure they have chains installed before coming up to Palomar Mountain. Even 4WD vehicles must carry chains. The roads have been a mess with unprepared visitors creating gridlock. We are so thankful that the CHP is staffing officers and enforcing the law. Please do not come to Palomar Mountain unless you have tire chains and know how to install them. We are a tiny mountain community with few resources...Please be respectful and safe!
The last series of wet storms brought many inches of rain and high winds to Palomar Mountain! Palomar Mountain experienced trees down, heavy rain melting the snow from previous storms causing rock and landslides. A new series of colder storms are headed our way lasting off and on through the week. El Niño conditions are here. It's either feast or famine when it comes to weather in Southern California!! Forecasters are predicting El Niño conditions to last into the spring.
This season, Palomar Mountain has had more welcome rain than in many past years.
Beginning February 13, 2019, there are a series of very wet storms that are to pass through Southern California. Before traveling to the mountains, please make sure you are prepared for potential hazardous conditions (slippery roads, wind, heavy rain, debris, ice and snow).
Happy Groundhog Day!
As of 8p tonight Palomar Mountain received 1 3/4 inches of
More rain and the possibility of snow headed our way with storms off and on through Wednesday of next week. Check the NOAA Website for weather updates.
Punxsutawney Phil and Grody the Groundhog are both predicting an early spring.
I am looking forward to spring already and a yard full of gorgeous daffodils, lilac
spring wildflowers and new leaves on the black oaks!
Be safe on the roads and remember to watch for debris on the roads...
